Byron Williams, former public works director sues Zurik, Fox 8 for defamation
Former Plaquemines Parish public works director Byron Williams is suing a New Orleans news reporter and his television station for defamation.
Williams’s attorney, Michael Mullin, filed suit in Orleans Parish March 3 against reporter Lee Zurik, WVUE (Fox8) and former interim Parish President Ed Theriot for damages “in excess of $50,000.” The suit was
following a Feb. 21 news report that included a lawsuit against the former director of operations Scott Lott, who is accused of illegally moving
kitchen equipment from the former Belle Chasse State School. Williams was also part of the broadcast for allegedly funneling PPG contract
work to his family’s companies. During the segment, Williams is mentioned and is accused of signing off on invoices for companies that are owned by his family members. During that taping Mr. Theriot stated that “He was writing purchase orders for his own company. Signing them to get paid for
all the sand in the parish, while getting paid as director of public service.”
